SNAP Food Replacement Assistance

Current SNAP recipients may qualify to replace food lost because of flooding or another qualifying household disaster.

Current SNAP recipients may be eligible for replacement benefits when food purchased with SNAP was destroyed by:

  • Flooding or severe weather
  • Fire
  • Extended power outages
  • Another qualifying household disaster

Requests are time-sensitive. Contact the Department of Human Services as soon as possible after the loss.

Important

SNAP replacement benefits are different from Disaster SNAP, also known as D-SNAP.

Document Your Losses

When it is safe, take photographs or videos before beginning cleanup. Keep receipts for temporary repairs, lodging, cleaning supplies, replacement items, and other disaster-related expenses.

Before You Begin Cleaning Up

Your safety comes first.

  • Wait until officials say it is safe to return.
  • Avoid standing or moving floodwater.
  • Do not drive through flooded roads.
  • Turn off electricity only when it can be done safely.
  • Do not touch wet electrical equipment.
  • Wear gloves, boots, eye protection, and a mask.
  • Photograph damage before moving or discarding items.
  • Keep children and pets away from floodwater.
  • Do not consume food, water, or medication exposed to floodwater.
  • Contact your insurance provider as soon as possible.
  • Save receipts, claim numbers, applications, and damage reports.
